Main Ingredient…

item Queen Alice Russell’s return to her place of birth, Tru Thoughts, was a big event. “To Dust” is her freshest work. Collaborating with TM Juke in the production, this album takes soul music into another level. Downtempo and dreamy, with Alice’s beautiful voice in the storytelling and Juke’s quality in orchestration, “To Dust” is everything that you would expect. A great work with the signature of Tru Thoughts. Born from the ashes and raised from the dust… 4/5!

Ass Covering…

51b42A8DHmL._SL500_AA300_ In 2009, the glamorous label of Tru Thoughts decided to release a compilation of covers, that her artists had created through the years. All the beloved TT prodigies are gathered here. Nostalgia 77, Aldo Vanucci, Hot 8 Brass Band, Quantic Soul Orchestra, The Bamboos and many more, give their exquisite opinion on how some classic tunes could sound in a modern perspective. Very well done, indeed. 3.5/5.

Photo Shoot…

Kylie Auldist returns with her third personal album, “Still Life”. The production is signed, again, by Lance Ferguson (Lanu/ The Bamboos) and Auldist offers her special voice, which slips inside some soulful and funky tunes. In this LP, Auldist is telling the stories of life and exploring subjects such as love, loss and relationships in general. It’s not a giant leap forward, but “Still Life” can guarantee your satisfaction. For more, listen to it… 3.5/5.

Voodoo People…

“Medicine Man” is the 5th album of The Bamboos and when I bought it I was wondering what could possibly be new in this work, for the band. I was surprised when I discovered that The Bamboos can still captivate our ears, hearts and souls with their beautiful and catchy sound. Collaborations with Aloe Blacc, Kylie Auldist, Daniel Merriweather and many more, combined with their unique funk and soul and you have an, at least, modest record. Scratch that! You have a great record which shows that The Bamboos are one of the best bands to represent modern funk. Bravo! 4/5!

Electricity…

Well, well, well. Our beloved kids are back. Belleruche, that is. Fourth studio album, named “Rollerchain” and the differences are too many to count. The general idea is that Belleruche have tried to change their sound and they made it pretty well. More electronic vibes, more broken beats and a new and improved pop attitude. It might be a little bit hard for you to assimilate all the changes. But, DeBoer’s voice will satisfy you till the very last second. Give it a try. After all, it’s Belleruche. And we love them… 3.5/5.

Take A Step Back…

What a reunite! A collaboration we were expecting for some time now. The two monsters of music, Quantic and Alice Russell are back, together again. Now that I think again, I can’t imagine the one without the other. Quantic with his Combo Barbaro are playing their usual latin and cumbia music with their unique sound and production and Alice with her stunning voice is travelling us to South America and back. For sure, one of the albums of 2012. An excellent work, which will reach your expectations and go beyond that. My respect, once again… 4.5/5!

Soul As A Weapon…

Kinny. The half Jamaican, half Canadian singer with the silky voice, is back with a new album. “Can’t Kill A Dame With Soul” is everything that Kinny and Tru Thoughts represent. First of all, simple sound. Nu jazz, broken beat, nu soul without bubbling. Just plain music, as it should be. Kinny’s soulful and gloomy vocals, fly you to the nearest cemetery in order to gaze the stars. The music in this album, talks into your soul, wipes the tears of your feelings and, at the same time, it gives you hope for something better. It shows you the light at the end of the tunnel. 4/5!

Astro-Not…
