They come from Germany and they have a great sense of music. “The Snowgoons Instrumentals” is a double CD package with a collection of their best tracks in instrumental mode. Para Todos…
Para is a Swindon-based DJ and producer and for the past years he’s part of the Breakin’ Bread family. “It’s The Hornet/ The Hideaway EP” was released back in 2008 and it’s a fine introduction with the musician, if you haven’t heard him by now. Hip hop beats and breaks with funky and latin grooves, all beautifully combined, as the sound of today wants to be aggressive and also sweet… 3/5.
Cornered…
Kill Emil, born in Brazil and raised in Greece, made a pretty good debut in 2011, with his album “The Corner”. You’ll find some nice tunes in here, hip hop with dub, reggae and freestyle blades among it, with collaborations including Elephant Phinix and J. Melik, plus remixes and backup from Palov and Billa Qause. What else could you ask for, mate? Greece is serving. Match, set, ball… 3.5/5.
In The Name Of Groove (Sequel)…
Chinese Man’s second work, “The Groove Session Vol.2″, was a better one. Yes, yes! Can you believe it? His self production is impeccable. His sampling is out of this world. The fusion of sounds establishes a new era in trip hop. Once in a few years, some talented musicians arise and the whole world is talking about them. Chinese Man is categorised among them and now we can, safely, tell stories to our children, of a great DJ that appeared out of thin air and changed the music scenery, forever. 4.5/5!
In The Name Of Groove…
I know I was late. But I had the chance to listen to “The Groove Sessions Vol.1″ 2 weeks ago. What a blast. An excellent record, with great production, unbelievable imagination and true passion. Chinese Man gives us dope beats, fused with hip hop, electro swing, jazz and vintage sound that will blow your head away… These works should be listened to, not talked about. So, enough with the words. I know that this is old news for you. But, what the heck, put that record on and have another chat with it… 4.5/5!
Rooted Deep…
It’s been a while since the last time we heard from the Aussie DJ and producer. Katalyst stroke back from down under in 2011 with his latest album, “Deep Impressions”. Once again he blends funk, jazz, reggae and disco with hip hop and dirty sounds. He collaborates with singers like Stephanie McKay, Jane Doe, Steve Spacek and many more and he delivers one masterpiece and maybe his best work until now. “Deep Impressions” is a 2011 album that you must have. Absolutely amazing… 4/5!
Mission To Mars…
It’s been a while since the last time, the cursed genre of hip hop presented a great album. N.A.S.A. came like a meteorite from outter space to crush everything you knew about hip hop. “Spirit Of Apollo” is a pandemonium of sounds and music. You want funk? You got it. You want soul? There it is. You want disco, rock or latin? Take it motherfucker! Anything you want, packed up in a tiny and tidy present. Great production leads to an amazing album. Don’t miss it! 4/5!
God Sent…
Ο Kormac είναι γνωστός beatsmaker με μεγάλη αγάπη για τον retro και vintage ήχο. Κομμάτια του έγιναν γνωστά μετά από τη συμμετοχή του σε κάποιες συλλογές της Cast-A-Blast. Μάλιστα, κυκλοφόρησε και δίσκο, σχετικά πρόσφατα. Πριν από όλα αυτά όμως, εθεάθη με το “Good Lord EP”, με το οποίο έκανε και αίσθηση. Ο Kormac κάνει τα πράγματα απλά, περιπλέκοντας breaks, hip hop, jazz και swing. Παντρεύει το παλιό με το νέο και επισημαίνει ότι ο φρέσκος ήχος δεν ξεχνάει ποτέ τις ρίζες του. Ένα εξαιρετικά παιχνιδιάρικο 7ιντσο, που ενδεχομένως να έπρεπε να το πουλάνε στα Jumbo, αντί για την μαλακισμένη συλλογή τους με τις σπαστικές διαφημίσεις τους… 4/5!
Cinematic Approach…
Ο DJ Grevious είναι κάτοικος Ιαπωνίας, cinema freak και γνώστης των decks και των scratches. Το 7ιντσο που παρουσιάζουμε σήμερα, περιλαμβάνει μερικά από τα πιο γνωστά κινηματογραφικά themes, όπως του Rocky και των Star Wars, τα οποία και ο Grevious τα περιποιείται δεόντως και τα δίνει μια νέα πνοή, ενσωματώνοντας σε αυτά hip hop beats και funky breaks. Μιλάμε για πολύ βρωμιά… 4/5!
Recipe For The Ear…
Ξεκινάω λέγοντας πως η Bastard Jazz δεν αγαπάει τα cd. Στα 10 χρόνια ύπαρξης της, αυτή είναι μόλις η δεύτερη κυκλοφορία της, ενώ όλα τα υπόλοιπα είναι 7ιντσα. Το “Cookin’ Gumbo” του Captain Planet, είμαι σίγουρος πως θα κονταροχτυπηθεί για την πρώτη θέση στους καλύτερους δίσκους για το 2011. Είχα πολύ καιρό να ακούσω κάτι ανάλογο. Ο Captain κατέχει όλα τα απαραίτητα υλικά για τη δημιουργία μιας μουσικής σπεσιαλιτέ που θα σε αφήσει άφωνο. Το νέο ηχητικό συνταγολόγιο είναι εδώ και δεν θα πρέπει να το χάσεις. Latin, funk, hip hop και broken beats, εξαιρετικά δομημένα, με άποψη και προσωπικότητα. Το “Cookin’ Gumbo” θα ικανοποιήσει την πείνα σου για κάτι φρέσκο και η ψυχή σου θα ξερογλείφεται για ένα από τα album της χρονιάς. 4.5/5!
