What a reunite! A collaboration we were expecting for some time now. The two monsters of music, Quantic and Alice Russell are back, together again. Now that I think again, I can’t imagine the one without the other. Quantic with his Combo Barbaro are playing their usual latin and cumbia music with their unique sound and production and Alice with her stunning voice is travelling us to South America and back. For sure, one of the albums of 2012. An excellent work, which will reach your expectations and go beyond that. My respect, once again… 4.5/5!

Soul As A Weapon…
Kinny. The half Jamaican, half Canadian singer with the silky voice, is back with a new album. “Can’t Kill A Dame With Soul” is everything that Kinny and Tru Thoughts represent. First of all, simple sound. Nu jazz, broken beat, nu soul without bubbling. Just plain music, as it should be. Kinny’s soulful and gloomy vocals, fly you to the nearest cemetery in order to gaze the stars. The music in this album, talks into your soul, wipes the tears of your feelings and, at the same time, it gives you hope for something better. It shows you the light at the end of the tunnel. 4/5!
Black Milk…
A compilation in the form of an EP. Jazz & Milk Recordings is one of the heavyweights of today’s jazz music, with plenty of stars, like Dusty and Ray Lugo. “Jazz & Milk Breaks Vol 3″ was released in 2009 and with only 6 tracks. Believe me, they are enough! Great production in all 3 gems. wicked tunes, broken beats, afro beat, nu jazz and the satisfaction is guaranteed. Super EP, indeed! 4/5!
The Sound Of Trees…
I bumped over Wipping Willow accidentally. I was that lucky! Cause this band from France is excellent. “Le Theatre Du Bruit” is an album full of secrets and surprises. It’s cinematic and carries you away. It contains nu jazz, broken beat and trip hop sounds of the finest quality. The vocals are also catchy. Do you seek for more? No, no, no… You don’t. Trust me. Check this out and you’ll get what I mean. Don’t miss this… 4/5!
Future Sound…
Una Mas Trio is a musical duet from Germany and they have a long history before their first long player, “Ritmo Del Futura” from 2007. Their vision is to provide a more contemporary sound of the old, traditional latin rhythms and I think that they did a pretty damn good work. Great tunes, relaxing moods, interesting collaborations on the vocals and you can pack it with your vacation-music-set. Don’t mind me… Summer is on it’s way! 4/5!
When The Sun Shines…
Sola Rosa is a very good band. The “Get It Together” album has everything. It has rhythm, groove, great orchestration and passion. Nice tunes, collaborations on the vocals, like Bajka and all the elements that make this work successful. In two words, you can enjoy the time listening to this record. So, why don’t you start right now? Eating lamb and shit… 3.5/5.
Sands In Time…
After the great success of the “Black Sands” we were expecting the remixed version of the album. And here it is. You will find many artists contributing and interpreting Bonobo’s songs in their own way, giving a new character to this work. Banks, Lapalux, Floating Points, FaltyDL, Mark Pritchard and many more, armed with desire and inspiration, are trying to pay respects to the great musician named Bonobo. If you like electronica, IDM, wonky and experimental stuff in general, then this is perfect for you. Personally not my favourite stuff… 3/5.
Ding Dong…
Ο Jerry Dimmer ή Dim Dim έρχεται από το κέντρο του διαβόλου, δηλαδή της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, τις Βρυξέλλες. Έχοντας ασχοληθεί με τα breaks, κυκλοφορεί το 2007 το album “Dim Dim” που κινείται σε πιο downtempo και ηλεκτρονικά μοτίβα. Ο ανάλαφρος ήχος του Dimmer, με τους παιχνιδιάρικους κιθαρισμούς και τα συννεφάτα φωνητικά, θα σε μαστουρώσουν μουσικά, θα σε κάνουν να υπνοβατείς μέρα μεσημέρι και οι φίλοι σου θα σε ρωτάνε συνέχεια “Καλά, ρε φίλε, γιατί χαμογελάς διαρκώς?”. Beautiful stuff. 4/5!
Astro-Not…
Με αυτά και με άλλα φτάσαμε και στην “Shapes 11:01″. Η ανανέωση της πίστης και της αφοσίωσης της δισκογραφικής και των ακροατών της, συνεχίζεται με σταθερούς ρυθμούς, καθώς η Tru Thoughts εξοπλίζει το μουσικό της στόλο διαρκώς. Και εδώ θα βρεις κομμάτια αγαπημένα, νέες υπογραφές, όπως οι Anchorsong, Lossy και MdCL, αλλά και ακυκλοφόρητα τραγούδια και remixes. Πέραν των σταθερών αξιών, βλέπουμε τον ήχο της TT να γυρίζει σε πιο ηλεκτρονικά/ dubstep μονοπάτια. Ας ελπίζουμε να βγει σε καλό, τόσο του label όσο και δικό μας. 4/5!
Recipe For The Ear…
Ξεκινάω λέγοντας πως η Bastard Jazz δεν αγαπάει τα cd. Στα 10 χρόνια ύπαρξης της, αυτή είναι μόλις η δεύτερη κυκλοφορία της, ενώ όλα τα υπόλοιπα είναι 7ιντσα. Το “Cookin’ Gumbo” του Captain Planet, είμαι σίγουρος πως θα κονταροχτυπηθεί για την πρώτη θέση στους καλύτερους δίσκους για το 2011. Είχα πολύ καιρό να ακούσω κάτι ανάλογο. Ο Captain κατέχει όλα τα απαραίτητα υλικά για τη δημιουργία μιας μουσικής σπεσιαλιτέ που θα σε αφήσει άφωνο. Το νέο ηχητικό συνταγολόγιο είναι εδώ και δεν θα πρέπει να το χάσεις. Latin, funk, hip hop και broken beats, εξαιρετικά δομημένα, με άποψη και προσωπικότητα. Το “Cookin’ Gumbo” θα ικανοποιήσει την πείνα σου για κάτι φρέσκο και η ψυχή σου θα ξερογλείφεται για ένα από τα album της χρονιάς. 4.5/5!
